SHASHANK GANDHI, MD

Education and Training

Dr. Shashank Gandhi is a board-certified neurosurgeon specializing in minimally invasive and complex spine surgery. He earned his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine and went on to complete neurosurgery residency at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell in New York City

Uniquely, Dr. Gandhi has trained in two advanced spine fellowships: one in Pediatric Spinal Deformity & Scoliosis at Shriners Children’s Philadelphia and another in Minimally Invasive & Complex Adult Spinal Deformity at the Barrow Neurological Institute. This allows him to treat both adult and pediatric complex spinal problems—including spinal deformity and scoliosis, kyphosis, revision spine surgery, spinal tumors, and motion-preserving surgery—allowing seamless care across the age spectrum.

Dr. Gandhi cared for patients at the world-renowned Texas Back Institute, where he also served as Director of Neurosurgery and Chair of Surgery. He has since then relocated his practice to Atlanta and now practices with Advanced Neurosurgery Associates at Northside Hospital.

Philosophy of care
His guiding principle is simple: maximize outcomes with minimal to no surgery whenever possible. Patients start with clear education, targeted physical therapy, medications, and image-guided injections. When surgery is the right answer, he emphasizes precision, small incisions, and enhanced-recovery pathways, with the goal of getting people back to work, family, and active lifestyles quickly and safely.

Research

Dr. Gandhi has authored peer-reviewed papers and a book chapter in spine and neurosurgery, and has delivered podium and scientific presentations at major national and international meetings, including the AANS/CNS Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves, Scoliosis Research Society, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, International Stroke Conference, and Society for Neuro-Oncology.

Medical Missions
Committed to expanding access to spine care, Dr. Gandhi serves in medical missions to bring advanced spine surgery to underserved regions across the globe. He has participated in missions to India, the Dominican Republic, Thailand, Barbados, and Ethiopia.
